We knew living in California, we had to cross Disneyland off the bucket list. It was about an 8 hour drive from the Bay Area but it’s worth it, right? We were excited to plan our first trip in the Keystone Outback and of course, I left it to hubby to find another cool RV spot. A lot of people asked how we planned out the weekend so we’ve compiled a quick itinerary for our adult Disneyland Weekend
FRIDAY
Leave Morgan Hill, CA to head to Disneyland
We headed to see all our Disney friends and be the biggest kids ever! While a somewhat long ride for a weekend, we just had to do it.
Take In the Prettiest Views on the Grapevine
If anyone knows anything about driving this route to Anaheim, it’s that you have to drive through the Grapevine. We were ready for twists and turns on roller coasters but not on the highway.
The Grapevine goes through the mountains with steep inclines and steep declines. Pulling a long trailer behind you is not exactly what you want to be doing. BUT, there were some pretty views to take my mind off it.
Arrive + Setup at Anaheim RV Park – “Camping in Mickey’s Backyard”
We stayed at the Anaheim RV Park which is 10 minutes from Disneyland. The park does sit right across from a school and seems a bit random but it was a great stay! We reserved a pull-through site at about $90/night. Amenities on-site include shuttle service to Disney, the Cafe and Clubhouse, pool, laundry, large pull-throughs, and showers. The park is well maintained and the spaces are nicely paved too.
Downtown Disney for Dinner
After unpacking, you work up an appetite. Downtown Disney is right outside of the theme parks and consists of shops, restaurants, bars, movie theater and more! It’s a great place to explore if going to Disneyland or even if you’re in the area and not going to the parks. It was 10 minutes from the RV Park.
We usually have a NO chain restaurants when traveling rule, only local. BUT, this meal we cheated because we hadn’t been to a Rainforest Cafe since Will had never been and I hadn’t been since I was a kid. Needless to say, we still enjoyed it and even got to keep our souvenir glasses that the cocktails came in.
Buy Mickey Mouse Shirts at the Local Walmart
There is no shame in our game. While we love to take vacations and “splurge” on places we stay, we do try save $$ in other ways. For this trip, we found my mickey fanny pack and our #twinning shirts at a local Walmart. There are plenty stores in downtown Disney but we weren’t looking to pay triple the price. Thanks to Walmart, we found everything we needed.
Rest Up for Long Days
Don’t forget to sleep!
SATURDAY
Make Breakfast at the Campsite
One of the biggest benefits to RVing is having those “home” accommodations like the ability to cook (saves $$). Our easy go-to breakfast is eggs, bacon, toast and OJ or coffee. We’re not huge coffee drinkers but sometimes.
Purchase Disneyland Shuttle Tickets
This was an awesome perk of choosing to stay here. You can purchase a $10 bus ticket good for all day, unlimited transportation to Downtown Disney.
Disneyland ALL DAY! What Rides to Get On.
We enjoyed every single ride/attraction we did.
Rides We Got On:
Thunder Mountain Railroad
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage
Indiana Jones Adventure
Pirates of the Caribbean
Space Mountain
Star Wars- The Adventures Continue
Matterhorn Bobsleds
We got lunch in the space mountain area of the park.
Cocktails Before Dinner
After Disneyland all day, we made a reservation in Downtown Disney for dinner. While we waited, we grabbed a drink at UVA Bar & Cafe located right in the middle of the Downtown Disney main plaza. I ordered the Spicy Mango Margarita and OMG, it was so good! DEFINITELY try one if you can.
Starving! Dinner at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen
There is nothing you want more than some good food after you’ve walked hella miles around the park all day. Our table was finally ready at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen and it was worth the wait. Our food was DELICIOUS! I had the BBQ shrimp and grits and Will had the Southern Fried Chicken. For dessert we indulged in their beignets, a New Orleans staple. We also enjoyed the New Orleans classic drink, a hurricane, and were so ready for bed now (we old sometimes!).
Shuttle Back to the RV Park
Remember that $10/day shuttle? Even at 10pm, we could grab the shuttle on our all day pass. We caught it around the corner at the shuttle stops right outside the theme parks’ main gates.
SUNDAY
Breakfast at the RV Park
We made another quick breakfast before getting the day started.
Shuttle to California Adventure Park
Right across the plaza from Disneyland is the main entrance to California Adventure Theme Park. We purchased the Two-Day Pass good for both parks so that we could make it a full weekend trip and go to both. We’d definitely suggest the two parks pass.
Rides Time
We didn’t do as many rides at California Adventure but the ones we did were awesome. They included:
Radiator Springs Racers
Guardians of the Galaxy-Mission Breakout
Soarin’ Around the World
Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree
Golden Zephyr
We grabbed quick food at the corn dog stand near the Golden Zephyr.
Photo Op, Why Not?
While walking in between rides, there was a photo area setup and NO ONE in line. Like wait what, don’t they know that’s a dream? The photographer was so generous and was happy to snap pics with my phone. Major shout-out to that dude.
Shuttle Back to RV Park
After finishing up the rides for the day, it was time to head back. Still such a great perk is that shuttle that you can catch every 20-30 minutes.
Visitors, Yay!
My stepsister lives in LA which is about 1 hour from our RV Park. She hadn’t seen our rig yet so we figured this is probably as close as we will be again.
It really brought out that pure form of RVing. We all sat outside at our campfire laughing, catching up and enjoying the precious moments. Life can get so busy but finding time to just sit and talk is worth it.
Pack Up + Time for Bed
We did most of the packing at night and then headed to bed.
MONDAY
Finish Packing Up + Say Good-Bye
It’s never fun getting ready to leave but another trip comes to an end. We left around 8am and headed back to Northern California.
This trip was everything we could have hoped for. We enjoyed good fun, good eats, and much needed time to just be big kids! If you’re traveling to Disneyland, Anaheim RV Park is always an option. There are other parks in the area but this one was great. It was one magical trip and we loved every bit of it.
Create. Dope. Adventures.
