48-Hour Guide to Visiting the Los Angeles Area

PIN THIS FOR LATER

We knew we wanted to visit the LA area but we also wanted to take the RV.  LA is a place that has something for everyone and we think you just have to cross it off the bucket list.

For us, only problem was where in the world do we stay with the RV? But, as it always goes, I leave that to my hubby and it worked out well.

Guide to Los Angeles Area In 48Hours

Where To Stay In RV

We stayed at the Acton/ Los Angeles North KOA about an hour from Downtown Los Angeles.  The campground is really cool as it sits inside of Soledad Canyon, nestled in the cliffs. I know it sounds far from attractions but once we left, we didn’t come back home for the day.  It was also the closest RV Park on the northern side for when we were heading home.

The Park had all the amenities you could need.  It’s very kid friendly with playgrounds, gaga ball courts, basketball, and weekend activities in the summer.  The amenities included showers, laundry, general store, pool, and a lounge.

Day 1

Staples Center

I mean I’m no true Lakers fan (sorry not sorry) but I’m a sports fan and we all can agree that the Lakers are a storied team.  Why wouldn’t we at least drive by the place that’s been home to some of the NBA’s Best Players Ever right?!

View the Staples Center site for more information and to plan your trip.  Maybe you can catch a game when you’re in town?!

Dodgers Stadium

Again, I’m a sports fan and we’re a sports family.  So we think it’s fitting to stop by yet another storied sports team’s home while in the area.  Dodgers Stadium is about a 10-minute drive from the Staples Center.

If you time your trip up, maybe you can catch a game there too!

Griffith Park/ Hollywood Sign (from afar!)

When you first hear the name, you probably wonder what’s so special about Griffith Park.  Then you think Hollywood Sign and there you go.  Griffith Park is located through a neighborhood in LA.  Across the mountains, you can see the famous “Hollywood Sign.”  You can hike through the mountains of Griffith Park as one of the routes to get up close to the Hollywood Sign.

We opted for the really far away shot so we could stay on track with our day.  But, you can definitely make a really cool memory out of hiking to the stop!

Spending some time at Griffith Park

Rodeo Drive

I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t going to the LA Area and not stop by Rodeo Drive.  It’s about a 40-minute drive from Griffith Park but worth it to us.

Rodeo Drive is made of restaurants and high-end designer stores and most famously where the “stars shop.” The architecture and style of the small area is super cute and makes for even a great place to stop for lunch or dinner.

Afternoon on Rodeo Drive

Beverly Hills

Rodeo Drive is pretty much in Beverly Hills but Beverly Hills still has its own place, you know “90210.”  Beverly Hills is home to many celebrities, luxury hotels and being a very wealthy area.

You can take tours of stars’ homes, ride down Mullholland Drive (home of many celebrities and great views), visit the Beverly Hills Hotel or even see the Greystone Mansion.

Los Angeles County Museum of Art

I love me some good outdoor lounging and live music and that’s what they had at LACMA. We met up with my stepsister and some of her friends during one of the outdoor summer festivals.  Since it was later in the day, we didn’t make it inside but are told it’s an AWESOME place to tour.

Miracle Mile Farmers Market

We love a good farmer’s market setup.  It reminds us of the ones we went to when we lived in Maryland.  The Miracle Mile Farmers Market offers a wide array of food options and the area in general is a neat place to hang out.

DAY 2

You can’t go to SoCal and not go near the beach! Again, there are PLENTY things to do in each place we mention.  These are places we went and suggest just being able to go.

Santa Monica Pier

Rides, great food, the Pacific Ocean, and great energy is what I think of when I think of the Santa Monica Pier.  It’s like your typical boardwalk at any beach but in beautiful, sunny SoCal.  You’ll find street performers, families, couples and any and everyone enjoying the day.

Beautiful Day on the Santa Monica Pier

Venice Beach

Venice Beach is in my top 5 favorite places in the country.  The vibes you get there are so refreshing and you feel like you can conquer the world.  You’ll find a boardwalk full of shops, food spots and street performers.  There’s also scooter and motorized rentals to enhance your time at Venice Beach. Not to mention there are always roller bladers and what I think are super “free spirits.”.

Afternoon at Venice Beach

Muscle Beach

Because it’s Muscle Beach, it deserves its own category.  We’ve heard about this place and figured what the heck, we’re right here.  There was a competition going on which is pretty typical.

I still can’t believe there is basically an outdoor gym where people just are lifting weights and trying to live their best fitness life RIGHT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE!  There were lifters of all ages, sizes and backgrounds and it’s pretty cool to see.

Ojai Valley

This one will seem super random and it kind of is BUT I really wanted to go.  My friend worked at a school in Ojai and he as well as others always talked about how pretty it was.  I love a beautiful backdrop on a city.  We also knew about an “airstream hotel” that was there that we wanted to check out (more on that in a second).

Ojai is surrounded by breath-taking views of rolling hills and mountains.  It’s known for retreats, organic food, boutique-style hotels, and good small business shopping.

Caravan Outpost

So, we had been following Caravan Outpost on social media for awhile.  The concept is so dope.  It’s basically an airstream hotel located in downtown Ojai. It’s a small property featuring a chic general store, 11 airstreams, and an outdoor gathering space.  Each airstream is nestled in it’s own little spot and they host a variety of communal events on property.

Caravan Outpost, what we call the “Airstreams Hotel”

Well, that wraps up this Guide to Visiting the Los Angeles Area in 48hours.  I know it was a lot and we were on the move.  But we figured if we drive all the way down there, we’ll get it all in.  There’s still so much more you can do there but these are some suggestions. Safe travels!
